So, this past weekend I went to a Canada's National Franshise and Business Opportunity Show.

You might be wondering, well, were you a vendor in it?! AND... the answer is No.
Not because I didn't think it was a good opportunity, but because I learned about it a bit too late and I was happy to simply attend and check things out.

To be honest, I didn't even check to see what vendors would be there.. I was willing to bet an hours drive AND a Saturday afternoon that I was going to get a chance to see Network Marketers in ACTION.

And I was not dissapointed!

Network Marketers from about 8 different companies where there really to recruit!

I must say I had a blast talking with a number of different people...!

I walked away with a VERY IMPORTANT lesson that I think we can ALL learn from. And PLEASE Do Not take this lightly. It absolutely amazes me how many people screwed this up.
(I can't put it any other way, and I'm sure I use to do this in the beginning...).

So to put things into context, this is a Business Opportunity Show which is probably the Most qualifed kind of Show a Network Marketer can enter. There are streams of people LOOKING for an Opportunity...

It was like a kind of test. I would walk up and see how they would start to pitch their opportunity. Now I can't say that everyone did this, but that's really what it was like... being PITCHED to time and time again.

So, what was the big screw up?! The fact that these networkers simply PITCHED what they had.
MOST of them didn't ask one very simple question, 'What Are YOU Looking For?'

That one question can really change the whole direction of the conversation. You see, instead of been a Sales Wo/Man, and start telling me why they had the BEST products, and BEST compensation plan etc...
They forget to answer one very basic question that ALL Prospects are bound to have - "What's In It For Me?"

And that is the Fatal Mistake I witnessed many times on Saturday. All of these great companies and great products being pitched - with little regard for who was receiving the message.

So, once again I will promote All of us to get exposed to a Training that will change the way you approach people. It's called, Professional Inviter by Tim Sales. You will understand WHAT to say when talking with people about your business.

Here's the big Hint; IT'S ALL ABOUT THEM, what they need, and what they want. It NOT about how great your berry juicec is, or how much money your sponsor is making...! People want to know what's in it for THEM.

You can thank me later for recommending this product (the link is in the article).

So PLEASE don't make the same mistake, remember to figure out what the Prospect is looking for Before you go into the details of what you have

To The Top,

Taigh

PS. These people paid $1400+ a booth and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them walked away that weekend frustrated from there results. Why? Because they still haven't learned how to master the art of generating their OWN leads...

If You're Ready To Become An Integrated Marketer and Want To Learn New Strategies to Build Your Home Business, First read the eBook the 7 Fatal Mistakes of a Network Marketer (found on the right hand side of this page) and learn what to avoid. And Follow the links within the eBook to the Integrated MLM Strategy Formula Training...

And if you know anyone who could benefit from this post, pass it on! This type of information NEEDS to get out to all of us in the Home Based Business Industry!

Lately I've spoken to a number of people who are a bit concerned whether or not they've chosen the right company to work with - as they build their Network Marketing Company.

Network Marketing Company

This is a great question especially if your serious about your business, and want to eventually turn it into a full time focus. So I wanted to write a quick post to share my thoughts on this topic - and the one 'SECRET' ingredient to all of this...

Well, I'm not always good at writing building up to suspense, so I'll just spit it out now. The "Secret ingredient" to making sure you've chosen the right Network Marketing Company is YOU.

HUH? you might be wondering. Well, you see - as much as your upline will tell you that your product is super special and EVERYONE on the planet is going to want it... that's simply NOT the case. Every company has a TARGET market and as long as you know how to MARKET to that group of people looking for what you have to offer... you'll do just fine.

Sure there are some elements that you should be looking for when it comes to choosing the right Network Marketing Company to partner up with. Here are a few:

- Has a history of success - (stay away from "Ground-floor opportunities")
- Management team is solid and have experience to build the company
- The Products ARE in demand - so you wont have to hassel people to buy
- It's something that you agree with / can get passionate about
- The compensation is decent - you are going to be paid on your efforts and you shoudn't have to build dozens of 'teams' to make a living

OK, all of that being said... what success in the industy comes down to is YOU.

Now, I think abvious advise. But I want to be clear. It doesn't mean that you need to work harder - you need to work SMARTER.

What do I mean? Well, to build a successful Network Marketing company (independent business) you need to be building with strategies that you can feel comfortable with. Not only that - strategies that you are CONFIDENT in.

So, What strategies are you building your business with? Are you Confident in these systems that you have in place?

Just some questions to get you thinking. You see, it's not really about the company and the best super-pill. It's all about haven't the right Strategy in place.

Stay connected to this blog for more STRATEGIES on how to build your network marketing business integrating NEW strategies...

Cheers to New Strategies,

I received yet another great question that you might
interested in reading over...

**************************************************
I am trying to create a new script for when I call
my prospects. The script that I have gives people
the impression that they have to sell somthing and
it makes it very difficult to recruit people. For
some reason when I mention "Direct Marketing" that
scares alot of prospects.
**************************************************

In terms of developing a script that 'works' and
doesn't scare off prospects - I would highly recommend
investing in a training material by Tim Sales, Called
Professional inviter. Here is a link:
http://www.firstclassmlmtools.com/All-Products-C17.aspx

(I'm very careful what I recommend, but I even have 2
copies of this. Back in the day when I was calling
leads... I had one copy of this training for me - and
one to pass out to my teammates)

If you are content on building your business by
calling leads, this training material is a must. It's
going to help you learn how to approach people in your
business with a whole new level of confidence and it
gives you live examples on what to say and how to say
it. (it offers much more as well such as a SOLID
understanding of the Network Marketing Industry).

This reminds me, I had a great conversation with

Tim this past August, Here's a pic of us in conversation,
Can you feel the intensity?! ... lol

Alright so, what it really comes down to is figuring out
what the other person is looking for, (answer the questions -
"What's in it for me?").

So to be honest, I don't really go by scripts. Sure
you'll be exposed to a bunch of different scripts and
ways to say things in that training. But I find that
it sounds rehearsed... you're much better off going
into the phone call thinking that you simply going to
meet this person and see if what you have to offer is
a good fit.

But all of that being said, I would recommend you
read over my eBook, The 7 Fatal Mistakes of a Network
Marketer. The 5th Fatal Mistake I talk about is
buying leads... and I go into some more details why
that is.

Alright, so there you have it!

If you're looking to clean up your arrpoach,
grab yourself of this invaluable training.

Remember - You ARE your own best Assest, so be
willing to invest in it!

Here's what Jess wrote:

good day to you,

this is jess, and I'm new to my bizness...
I have a very big concern right now,
-probably,what can u suggest on how to get people be
interested in this bizness? i'm having a hard time in
getting people join the bizness.
i've already invited several people, although my
uplines are the one who talked for my invites, at
first they became interested, but when i do the follow-
up, they tend not to reply or answer any of my follow-
ups,
and it's a huge problem on my part, hope u could help
me overcome this.

Thank you and God Bless!

*************************
Here's my response
*************************

Hi there Jess,

Let's break this down. Your first question:
what can u suggest on how to get people be interested
in this bizness?

Great question, and this answer took me a number of
years to figure out.
Here's the thing, you're going to struggle if you are
trying to create an interest in someone who didn't
really have an interest in the first place.
Let me explain.

When you are talking with someone and you think they
would be good at, or interested in working the
bizness, you have to step back and make sure you can
answer this one very important question,

******************
What's in it for them?
******************

If you do not know exactly why this bizness would be
a good fit for your prospect, then you really
shouldn't go into the bizness.

You see, this is a big part of Qualifying the

prospect. Making sure that what we have is a good fit

for them.

When I talk to people now, one of the first things I
say, is that, "I'm not sure if what I have is going to
be right for you - so I just want to see where you're
at and see if there's a good fit".

This does a couple things.
1) It puts down their guard. Instead of seeing you
as someone who just wants to get them to join
something, they now see you as a friend.

2) People really open up and you'll see that they
will tell you what they're TRULY after.

For example. When someone says to me that they want
to make more money, I ask them, "Why, what are you
going to do with that money?".

This is all a part of getting the person 'interested'
as you would call it.

ONLY IF there truly is a good fit. Meaning, if being
able to build a business will help them get what they
want.
Often times it can - but not always.

So when there is a link. When someone says that they
would like more money, or be able to stay home with
their kids... That's what you approach with.
SO...
ALL of your communications are going to be geared
towards how working this can help them get what they
want.

****************************
Second part of your question is about the follow
up.
*****************************

The first thing to make this a whole lot easier is to
SCHEDULE the time that you are going to follow up. Do
Not leave a meeting, without knowing when you're going
to talk next. It's as simple as asking, "When will
you have a change to review the materials?"... ok
great, how about I give you a call on [Thursday at
7:00pm] and we'll talk more".

Notice that it's an EXACT time and day.

And when you follow up, you lead with what it is that
they wanted. You can say something like this,
"So can you see how building this as a side bizness
can help you stay home with the kids?"

Another words, go back to the thing that they really
want. Just as you said, at first they were interested -
So what was it that they were interested in?

Not many people want to sign up for a business. But
they do want to sign up for an opportunity for a
better lifestyle (for example).

In summary, communicate to people on a level that
shows them that this can help them get what they
really want. If they don't feel it's right for them,
MOVE ON. Find people who are looking for what we have
to offer.

To The Top,
Taigh
"The Personal Trainer For Network Marketers"

PS. I'm working of some materials that will help with
getting more qualified people to talk to. I know how
important this is... and it's been a big part of my focus.

To recap:
- It's a big waste of time and money
- I didn't enjoy the process...

Now, I know some will say that it has built their business

And I know - It CAN ... but it's not EFFECTIVE.

See, you could probably stand on the street trying
to get new partners and customers. Could it work?

Yes.

Is it an effective way to go?

No.

But here is a more fundamental reason why it's a bad
idea.

You're starting off with the wrong mindset. You are
chasing the person down.

Do you think a top producer in a company would
be spending time with unqualified people? NO.

Without us knowing it, this is what the person on the
other side of the phone is thinking.

BUT GET THIS.

People are asking themselves 2 things when thinking
of joining you in business.

1) Will this help me with what I need or want?
2) Are YOU the person I want to work with?

If you don't satisfy both of those questions...
you will continue chasing people for many years
to come.

So the reason why it's a bad idea to buy leads,
is simply because we are approaching people in a
place of need. That DOES NOT equate to Leadership.

So there you have it.

To chase or to be chased.
The hunter, or hunted.

Here's why I think it's a terrible idea to buy leads.

But first let me tell you why I started to purchase

It was about a year ago March 2008 where I had been
building my business full time for over 6 months.
I lived in a new town, and didn't know too many people
so I figured out new ways to get connected in the local
community (remind me and I'll write more on that experience).

Anyways, I had hit the bottom of my names list ONE LAST
TIME.

Now, I know that experts say that the average person
knows 300 people - but after being in the business for
about 3 years at that time - I had Approached ALL 300
of my people... hahah.. and more.

So, I thought the next logical step was to try and buy
leads.

A lead is a person who has expressed an interest in
a Home Bassed Business by filling out a form.

So, that's what I did.

I would buy them in the hundreds and call EVERY ONE
of them. Even more then once.

Here's what I was faced with;
- It was extremely hard to get a hold of people
- They were not very qualified
- I was spoken to as a Telemarketer...

You know, this just wasn't what I had signed up for.

I wanted to have fun, and enjoy the freedom that this
business can offer...

It finally hit me... and I stopped buying leads...
And will never do it again.

There's a more fundamental reason why it's a bad idea
to buy leads..

Don't want thisl to go over time... so stay tuned

for tomorrow's email and I'll explain more.

Cheers to Success,

This is a response I wrote to a question I received this week (by the way, a lot of really great ones and I'm still finding time to write back to a few others

but I thought I would share this one with everyone. Here's the question:

"Given your experience in MLM what do you feel about a business that appear to only be building their customer base for their product with only the distributors being the customer?"

Hi Dave,

This is a really good question regarding how people build their MLM business. First, it has to be crystal clear that a prospect who is interested in the products is vastly different then the prospect looking for a business.
I know it seems obvious, but so many times people mix the two together. They are separate prospects - with VERY different desires.

That being said, it's important to promote to the people differently.

To lead with products or business? that is the question

You bring up a good point that most companies really focus on getting new distributors. That doesn't mean that's what you have to do, but the benefit of growing your business through other partners is duplication. (as you know).

So, if you're left with a decision moving forward how to build either a) attracting business partners who take the products and build the business or b) product users ... most opt for the business prospects.

But as you seem to have noticed - Product users ARE the life-line to our business. If you get a happy customer on your products... they will be on them for a very long time. Whereas, the business partner might get discouraged and quit.

So I definitely do recommend building the business by connecting customers with the product.
So to answer your question how do I feel about businesses that appear to only promote the 'opportunity'... I would be cautious. At the end of the day, the products are what drive our business.

You see, you can have a network marketing business for ANY product - but if it doesn't fit the model for network marketing and if people are not happy with the products - one little hiccup can really do damage to the business.

So is it normal for companies to go this way? - Well, yes and no. Distributors end up really promoting the business because of the growth potential in it... but hopefully our company stand behind the products more than anything.

I recommend dividing your marketing efforts to attract both product customers and business partners into your business. Whether that's 50/50, 30/70 or 10/90 (customers / business partners). ... depends on your goals and comfort level...

We have a powerful way of bring the products to the market. If you're passionate about the products build with the products! It can be slower growth - but still rewarding.

I hope that helps.

If you are looking to build a Mary Kay business, or become Avon representative you'll want to listen up. I'm about to share with you three resons why you might want to re-consider such a business. And hey, if you decide it's the right business for you - all the power to you, at least you will be well informed.

So there are some practices that I don't particually enjoy when building a home based business such as Mary Kay business or a Avon business. Let's jump right into them;

Home Parties - This is where you invite your friends and family to come and checkout the new products you are working with. You offer free facials, and massages. The reason why I'm not a big fan of this (though it does 'work') is because often times people feel obligated to attend. And for most new to the business it can seem a bit intemmidating to present to people in a half freind / half professional way.

Delivering Products - One of the requirements that you should have for a business venture is that you should not have to drive around any products. Why? This wastes a whole lot of time and at the end of te day you will not be paid for delivery time. The company that you decide to join should have the shipping and handling of money all taken care for you. You are paid for two things when building a Home Based Business, connecting customers with the products, and building a team of distributors to do the same. That's it. As a Mary Kay consultant or a Avon representative, you will be expected to deliver some products to your customers... which will eat up your time!

Residual Income - This means to have income rolling in for work you did in the past. With a Mary Kay business or a Avon business, the products can last a few months therefore taking away potential revenues compared to a product that is ordered on a monthly basis. The more consistent your customers are, the better residual income you and yoru team will be able to build.

Both the Mary Kay business and the Avon business are great opportunities to get a good feel for what it means to be in business for yourself. But because of some of these limiting factors, I would encourage you to continue your search for that perfect home based business.
