It's good to be yourself, it makes you more authentic.

    Hey Taigh,

WTF was her problem?! Just kidding around! I just wanted to write 'WTF' and see who I could piss off. But in all seriousness, I really did appreciate your post and video here. This is something I have worried about often, but do understand more and more that being yourself is actually really the only sustainable option in business and in life. It was great to hear your direct, yet not mean spirited point of view. It makes sense, really. A great reminder.

    Thanks!

hi, Taigh! Long time no see. Good to see that you are making lots of progress in your business!
I just watched this video after seeing the link in a Facebook feed.
My personal opinion is that I would not 'delete' someone from my life/RSS feed/whatever based on profanity. I think that the quality of what someone has to say is separate from whether they use profanity or not.
Having said this, I also have to admit that profanity DOES sound extremely unprofessional. When I read or hear someone in a profession that swears, it sticks out like a sore thumb to me. I then need to make a CONSCIOUS EFFORT to look past the profanity to concentrate on their message. So, I guess if a professional wants to make it that much easier for a listener to access their message, they should consider cutting that out of all professional communications. (What someone says among friends is irrelevant).
There are my two cents. Thanks for the forum!

Great point Tammy. And I definitely agree with you! I guess it really depends on who you ARE, and how you communicate with people (professionally). It's an interesting topic as the online world starts to break down the barriers of one's 'private life'. Especially with platforms like Facebook where you can peak into one's life and see what they're up to. But regardless - I agree if words are hap-hazardously being thrown around with little thought, it's comes off sloppy and unprofessional.
Great to hear from you and trust you're doing well :)

  5. Taigh says:

    Amen to that Oscar!
I was the same - very cautious for a long time. A side note to this that I didn't mention in the video is that the subject line in that email... boosted the open rate considerably. (therefore serving it's purpose!) ...
The use of Language is powerful ...

Great to hear from you Oscar

Absolutely Casey! Your videos are a great example of that!
We have to shoot more videos of the fun business adventures we go on!

I have to say, I also found it very unprofessional. I am looking at the industry of internet coaches and the such and a friend sent me this link to get my opinion. I find not only the e-mail unprofessional, but also your video response. My teacher and coaches, I don't really want to be on that personal a level with them. I still want to call my teachers by Mr, Miss, Dr,or Professor.
You say you don't care that you lost a subscriber, but obviously you do if you took no protection for their identity. You took almost 10 minutes of your day because this one e-mail got under your skin. You are putting yourself out there as a professional in the internet and we still need civility and professionalism in the business world if you are strictly on the internet or not.

    Hey there AP,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This is a great piece for conversation... and I definitely agree that there's a difference between talking to a friend vs a client, but it's interesting as one builds a business online, the boundaries seem to get blurred. I think we can both agree that the use of language is powerful... And that's what I'm trying to get at here. BECAUSE I am cognizant of the words I use, the people who are interested in what I have to say pay close attention when I do choose to use strong language. And It's not that the email 'got under my skin' - that may have been the case a few years ago when I first got started online. The video is to help others feel comfortable in their own skin as being Authentic is more important then ever.
Yes, being a professional is important. And we have to be alright with the idea that not everyone is going to take to our style. I'm thrilled with the clients I have because we resonate with one another, and this makes a world of a difference getting up to 'work'.

    Thanks for sharing!
