Working from home has been a dream come true but there are a few things to watch out for. People see the benefits right away in being able to work from home. Some of these include;
1) Not having to drive through traffic 2) Staying home with the children 3) Setting your own schedule 4) Being your own boss
And the list goes on. But not many people will talk about the difficulties of working from home. We tend to build certain associations with different rooms in our house. For instance if we are use to relaxing in the television room, this is probably not the best place to be productive. If I’m not in my office I find my mind wondering in all different directions. So the first tip is to have a dedicated place where you can work.
When working from home there is less incentive to go out and meet new people. This can make you feel trapped and I know for myself, if I’m not around people I’ll start to go a bit crazy. So make it a part of your schedule to do activities that are outside or are in a group setting.
And one of the main downfalls of working from your home is being able to draw the boundaries of when you are working and when you are not. It becomes so easy just to slip into the office and check your email, or do a couple more things. This often times leads to a few more hours of work and less time for your loved ones!
Working from home definitely has a lot of benefits but is overshadowed by new challenges. Set boundaries for yourself and have others who you live with understand them as well. This will go a long way for your personal and business life as you become more productive.
